Chapter 1: The Descent into Volgrat
Deep within the Ural Mountains, shrouded by dense forests and perpetual mists, stands the ominous sanatorium of Volgrat. Established in 1952 as a retreat for prominent Soviet scientists, it transformed over time into something far more sinister. Forgotten after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the sanatorium was claimed by a dark cult known as "The Children of the Void," dedicated to rituals and experiments that sought to merge arcane science and black magic.
In a nearby small village, where the few residents live in fear and lock themselves away at nightfall, journalist Irina hears rumors of disappearances and decides to investigate. Infiltrating Volgrat, she discovers a labyrinth of ancient laboratories and sealed rooms where grotesque experiments appear to have been recently conducted. She encounters jars of mutant organs, spell books, and symbols of human sacrifices.
During her exploration, Irina meets Maksim, a survivor of the experiments, whose humanity is partially intact. Together, they learn that the cult plans a ritual during the next lunar eclipse, intended to open a portal to an infernal plane. Determined to stop the ritual, they seek to free the souls trapped in the sanatorium, which fuel the sect's power.
In a frantic race against time and the abominations roaming the corridors, Irina and Maksim confront the cult leader, an elderly witch known as "The Empty Mother." Using arcane knowledge found in the books, they manage to divert the ritual's energy, freeing the souls and causing the mutant creatures to turn against their creators. The sanatorium collapses amidst the chaos, burying The Empty Mother and her acolytes.
Chapter 2: The Guardians of the Void
After the disaster, Irina and Maksim, scarred by the horrifying truths they uncovered, return to the village. However, they fail to convince anyone of the terrors of Volgrat; their stories are taken as delusions or rural legends. With the outside world dismissing their warnings, they decide to form a group called "The Guardians of the Void," along with other occult researchers and cult survivors.
They establish a camp on the outskirts of the Volgrat ruins to monitor any supernatural activity. Soon, they discover that the failed ritual has left a "hole" in the fabric of reality, and signs indicate that something is attempting to reopen the portal. They must venture back into the ruins to face new horrors and prevent the fracture from expanding.
Tension grows in the village: residents experience nightmares and sightings of shadowy figures. Irina, Maksim, and their team descend into the subterranean tunnels once more. They find that the sanatorium, though in ruins, remains a nest of dark energies and lurking entities.
In a final confrontation, they work to seal the hole in reality, facing not only supernatural forces but also the fears and secrets of the village that have come to light. The battle is both physical and spiritual, testing their endurance and their understanding of the world.
At dawn, after a long night of struggle, they manage to stabilize the situation, but the sanatorium and its secrets remain under permanent surveillance. The village, though still fearful, begins to accept the truth about the shadows surrounding them, and life continues under a new normal, now aware of the horrors that may lurk just beneath the surface.
